![]() ![]() But since then it has got worse and worse. It might have been a little better at first. To my amazement, this did not really change anything. I add that I run two external monitors (Apple 20" cinema, 1680x1050 LG 18" L1800, 1280x1024) and I tried disconnecting those, but this did not seem to help, and my own research did not lead me to believe that running these monitors would so degrade performance.Īt some point I upgraded to Catalina hoping that would help, but it did not.Ībout six weeks ago (and at that time I was running the machine without any external display) I formatted the hard drive and re-installed Mojave. I have tried a lot of things, like checking for malware (avast), maintenance using Onyx and Disk First Aid, resetting PRAM and SMC, changing from Microsoft suite to Apple apps.I never found any culprit and it only got worse. It started to slow down last year: very slow to start up, and beachballing while running. Unfortunately I bought one that cannot have RAM added to it. I have a 21.5" iMac that is about four years old.
